What is Psalms 93 about?

The declaration 'The LORD reigneth' now sounds the keynote of the fourth book, portraying God clothed with majesty and girded with strength, seated over a world that cannot be moved. Though the floods lift up their voice and roar, the LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters and the mighty breakers of the sea. His throne is established of old, and He is from everlasting. Coming after the lament for David's fallen throne, this brief hymn assures the people that the true King has never abdicated, and that His testimonies are very sure.

Historical backdrop

These are the songbook of a nation, sung across a thousand years of Israel's worship, from Moses in the wilderness to the exiles returned from Babylon. They were carried from the tabernacle to Solomon's temple to the second temple rebuilt under Persia, set to the lyre and the harp and the clash of cymbals in the courts of the LORD.

1Jehovah reigneth; he is clothed with majesty; Jehovah is clothed with strength; he hath girded himself therewith: The world also is established, that it cannot be moved.
2Thy throne is established of old: Thou art from everlasting.
3The floods have lifted up, O Jehovah, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves.
4Above the voices of many waters, The mighty breakers of the sea, Jehovah on high is mighty.
5Thy testimonies are very sure: Holiness becometh thy house, O Jehovah, for evermore.
