Sung by David among the Songs of Ascents that carried Israel's pilgrims up to Jerusalem, this brief psalm celebrates the good and pleasant sight of brethren dwelling together in unity. He likens that unity to the precious anointing oil running down Aaron's beard and to the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion, for there the LORD commands His blessing, even life forevermore. As the worshipers assemble at the sanctuary, the psalm shows that covenant fellowship is itself a gift from God's hand. Gathered around His presence, the people of God foretaste the unity of the one people Christ would gather from every nation.
