We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

Basil teaches that the Spirit was present at creation, moving over the waters, and continues to bring life through sanctification. The Spirit is the agent of new birth in baptism and the power of resurrection. The Psalmist declares that by the Word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the Breath of His mouth all their host.

The Spirit is called the Lord and Giver of Life. It is the Spirit who raised Christ from the dead, the Spirit who gives life to our mortal bodies, the Spirit who makes the letter of the law come alive. To give life is the exclusive prerogative of God — no creature can bestow what it does not possess in its own right. Since the Spirit gives life, He must be God.
