§797"What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the Body of Christ, which is the Church."243 "To this Spirit of Christ, as an invisible principle, is to be ascribed the fact that all the parts of the body are joined one with the other and with their exalted head; for the whole Spirit of Christ is in the head, the whole Spirit is in the body, and the whole Spirit is i…
God will bestow salvation upon the whole nature of man, consisting of body and soul in close union, since the Word took it upon Him, and adorned with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, of whom our bodies are, and are termed, the temples. 1. I have learned, however, that certain persons from elsewhere have passed among you, having false doctrine, whom ye did not allow to sow seed among you, but stopped your ears that ye might not receive those things which were sown by them, as being stones of the temple of the Father, prepared for the building of God the Father.
Moreover, I will also tell you concerning the temple, how the wretched people, being deceived, set their hope on the building, and not on their God that made them, as being a house of God.
47. If then for our sake He sanctifies Himself, and does this when He has become man, it is very plain that the Spirit's descent on Him in Jordan was a descent upon us, because of His bearing our body. And it did not take place for promotion to the Word, but again for our sanctification, that we might share His anointing, and of us it might be said, 'Do you not know that you ar…

Without grace, can he merit eternal life? Without grace, can man prepare himself for grace? Without grace, can he rise from sin? Without grace, can man avoid sin? Having received grace,…
Q. What do you believe concerning the Holy Spirit? A. First, he, as well as the Father and the Son, is eternal God. Second, he has been given to me personally, so that, by true faith, he makes me share in Christ and all his blessings, comforts me, and remains with me forever.
Since God as Spirit is in essence invisible and immense, he cannot really be expressed by any art or image. For this reason we are not afraid to say with Scripture that images of God are mere lies. Therefore we reject not only the idols of the Gentiles, but also the images of Christians. Although Christ assumed human nature, yet he did not on that account assume it in order to …
The bodies of the faithful, as being the temples of the Holy Spirit, which we truly believe shall rise again at the last day, Scripture commands us to commit honorably to the earth, without superstition, and to make honorable mention of those who died in the Lord. We do not approve of those who show an excessive care for the dead, who are over-anxious for their condition, and w…
To the saints honour must be paid as friends of Christ, as sons and heirs of God: in the words of John the theologian and evangelist, As many as received Him, to them gave He power to became sons of God. John 1:12 So that they are no longer servants, but sons: and if sons, also heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ : and the Lord in the holy Gospels says to His apostl…
