1 Corinthians 15:54

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Gregory presents Christ's death and resurrection as divine deception of death itself. Death swallowed the bait of Christ's humanity but was pierced by the hook of His divinity. Death is swallowed up in victory — "O death, where is your sting?" Christ entered death to destroy it from the inside, bursting its bonds by the power of an indestructible life.
