Sanctification begins the moment we are justified. It gradually increases from that time. But there is likewise an instantaneous change, wrought by the Spirit of God, in which the heart is cleansed from all sin and filled with pure love to God and man. This is what I call entire sanctification, or Christian perfection.
By such gross sins, however, they greatly offend God, deserve the sentence of death, grieve the Holy Spirit, suspend the exercise of faith, very deeply wound the conscience, and sometimes lose the awareness of grace for a time, until God's fatherly face shines upon them again when they turn back in earnest repentance.
