§1108In every liturgical action the Holy Spirit is sent in order to bring us into communion with Christ and so to form his Body. the Holy Spirit is like the sap of the Father's vine which bears fruit on its branches.26 The most intimate cooperation of the Holy Spirit and the Church is achieved in the liturgy. the Spirit who is the Spirit of communion, abides indefectibly in the Chur…
§67Here, Venerable Brethren, We wish to speak in a very special way of our union with Christ in the Body of the Church, a thing which is, as Augustine justly remarks, sublime, mysterious and divine;[132] ut for that very reason it often happens that many misunderstand it and explain it incorrectly. It is at once evident that this union is very close. In the Sacred Scriptures it is…
He showed me a large willow tree, overshadowing plains and mountains, and under the shade of the willow all have come who are called by the name of the Lord. And by the willow there stood an angel of the Lord, glorious and very tall, having a great sickle, cutting branches from the willow, and giving them to the people that were overshadowed by the willow.
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Calvin expounds the union of believers with Christ under the figure of the vine and branches. Apart from Christ we can do nothing — every branch that does not bear fruit is taken away, and every fruitful branch is purged. The disciples are chosen and appointed to bear fruit. The hatred of the world toward believers is not sur…
Commencing with the invocation of God, Augustine relates in detail the beginning of his life, his infancy and boyhood, up to his fifteenth year; at which age he acknowledges that he was more inclined to all youthful pleasures and vices than to the study of letters.
