Tobit 8

8
What is Tobit 8 about?

On the wedding night Tobias remembers the angel's word and lays the fish's heart and liver on the incense embers, and the demon Asmodeus, driven off by the smell, flees to the farthest parts of Egypt, where Raphael binds him. Rather than fall to the fate of the seven before him, Tobias rises with Sarah and the two pray together, asking God's mercy and a long life shared. Fearing the worst, Raguel has meanwhile dug a grave in the night, but a servant sent to look finds the couple asleep and alive, and the grave is quietly filled in before dawn. Raguel blesses God and orders a fourteen-day feast, the demon's power broken and Sarah delivered, the hinge on which the tale's whole rescue turns.
