Tobit 3
What is Tobit 3 about?
Crushed by blindness and his wife's reproach, Tobit turns to prayer and asks God to let him die. On that same day in far-off Ecbatana, Sarah the daughter of Raguel is driven to the same despair when a servant taunts her that the demon Asmodeus has killed seven bridegrooms on their wedding nights; she considers hanging herself but recoils for her father's sake and pleads with God instead. The narrator lifts the veil to show that both prayers rise before God's glory at once, and that the angel Raphael is dispatched to heal them both, to peel the white films from Tobit's eyes and to free Sarah for a rightful husband. Two sufferers who have never met are bound together by one answered cry, displaying the providence that governs His people even in exile.
