Tobit 5

5
What is Tobit 5 about?

Sent to retrieve the silver in distant Media, Tobias looks for a trustworthy guide who knows the road and finds a man who calls himself Azarias, a kinsman, in truth the angel Raphael in disguise. Tobit questions the stranger about his family, is satisfied, and hires him, unaware that heaven has already answered his prayer by sending an escort. Anna weeps to see her only son depart on so long a road, and Tobit comforts her with the promise that a good angel will go with them. The two set out together, the family dog following after, in a departure the reader knows to be more than it seems, God's care already at work through an unrecognized messenger.
