John 3:19

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

KJV

Greek NT

Hoc est autem judicium : quia lux venit in mundum, et dilexerunt homines magis tenebras quam lucem : erant enim eorum mala opera.

Vulgate

And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

ASV

And this is the judgment: Because the light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than the light: for their works were evil.

Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Calvin shows that regeneration is absolutely necessary — not merely an improvement of nature but an entirely new birth. This new birth is from above, by the Spirit, and is as mysterious and sovereign as the wind. The lifting up of the serpent in the wilderness is a type of Christ's crucifixion: as Moses lifted up the…
Is it fitting for God to become incarnate? Was it necessary for the restoration of the human race? If there had been no sin, would God have become incarnate? Did He become incarnate to take away original sin rather than actual? Was it fitting for God to become incarnate from the beginning of the world? Should His Incarnation have been deferred to the end of the world? Article 1…
However, that many who have been called through the gospel do not repent or believe in Christ but perish in unbelief is not because the sacrifice of Christ offered on the cross is deficient or insufficient, but because they themselves are at fault.
We believe the most good God to have from eternity predestinated unto glory those whom He hath chosen, and to have consigned unto condemnation those whom He hath rejected; but not so that He would justify the one, and consign and condemn the other without cause. For that would be contrary to the nature of God, who is the common Father of all, and no respecter of persons, and wo…
