And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.

The words of the text are an answer which King Agrippa made to the Apostle Paul, who in the preceding verses had been recounting his experience and defending himself. The reply is at once moving and tragic: "Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian." Many are in this same condition — they are almost, but not altogether, Christians.
