If the magistrate rule contrary to the Word of God, the people are not bound to obey, for we must obey God rather than man. The prophets openly resisted wicked kings. Elijah rebuked Ahab; Nathan rebuked David; John Baptist rebuked Herod. In like manner, the godly must resist ungodly decrees and call the nation to repentance.
