Chapter 14.—That the Years in Those Ancient Times Were of the Same Length as Our Own. Let us now see how it can be plainly made out that in the enormously protracted lives of those men the years were not so short that ten of their years were equal to only one of ours, but were of as great length as our own, which are measured by the course of the sun. It is proved by this, that…
And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark. The faith of Noah is here seen in his prompt obedience. The ark is a type of the Church, in which alone salvation is to be found. The flood is a dreadful testimony of the wrath of God against sin, and a warning to all ages that God is the judge of the world.
Josephus retells the Genesis narrative: creation, the fall of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, the genealogy from Adam to Noah, the flood, the tower of Babel, and the lives of Abraham and Isaac. He follows the biblical account closely but adds rationalizing explanations and draws on extra-biblical traditions.
